Adding Files
Arclink has a small number of mandatory fields

-
The section and levels defining the level a file will be added to. Files cannot be added to sections.
-
The opening and closing dates. These will be calculated automatically from the file lifecycle, the opening date defaulting to today's date.
-
The title.

A file can be added by using the main option File -> Add File. The section and level's for the file will then be selected. The file's lifecycle will be generated based on the levels default lifecycle.

A file can also be added by right clicking on a level node, or the file grid, and selecting Add File. The section and level will be automatically set and marked read-only. This will also set the lifecycle and calculate the opening and closing dates based on current date and the selected lifecycle. This is shown in the image above. In this case, only the file title needs to be entered.

Files can also be added in bulk using the Data Import Function.
BROWSE AND SEARCH
As mentioned, Arclink groups files in a hierarchical structure, based on sections and sub levels. These sections and their levels are displayed using a treeview similar to Windows file explorer.
The files in each level are listed in a user friendly and dynamic file grid. The file grid supplies features for sorting, filtering and moving columns. The Admin super user can add or remove columns from this grid.
Before detailing the various search options, lets review how easy it is to add a file.

SEARCH BY LOCATION
Another search is by location which is covered in the file storage topic.
SEARCH BY BARCODE
Another mechanism is to search by barcode entering the barcode as numbers.
QUICK SEARCH
The quick search option as shown here is a keyword search across title, description, alt file ref, custom fields if enabled and potentially section and level titles. The type of matching applied can also be specified.
All search options can be filtered by section and levels. For an example please review the Storage topic. This filter is remembered and automatically applied to the section and levels filters.

The most powerful search mechanism is the Detailed Search. This allows for searches across all file fields and allows for complex searches to be defined and saved . Each field has different filters operators based on the data type of the source file field. The selection criteria can also be grouped to make the search as powerful as possible.
